Tuberous a.k.a Tubular Breast Deformity according to Seattle Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Lisa Lynn Sowder

Even in highly educated and connected Seattle, women sometimes suffer with tuberous breasts for years unaware that treatment is available or even that their condition has a name!

Tuberous Breast DeformityTuberous or tubular breast deformity refers to a breast that has an overly prominent nipple areolar complex (NAC) and has a constricted base. The breast can be very underdeveloped or can be quite large but have an unusual shape.   A nickname for tuberous or tubular breast is a “Snoopy” breast because they sometimes have an appearance of the comic strip beagle’s snout.

Treatment of Tubular Breasts

Treatment of the tuberous breast usually involves and implant to fill out the underdeveloped lower part of the breast and some sort of lift to reshape and reposition the nipple areolar complex. Occasionally, patients can be treated with just and implant or just a lift. In rare cases of enlarged tuberous breasts, a combination of a lift and reduction can improve the appearance. Tuberous breasts often occur in patients with significant breast asymmetry which makes treatment more challenging.

Every case of tuberous breast deformity is unique and the plastic surgeon must be versed in a variety of techniques to optimize the surgical outcome. If you have tuberous breasts, take comfort in that you are not alone and surgery can almost always result in significant improvement.

Breast Lift for Tuberous BreastsIf you are seeking a female, woman or lady plastic surgeon in Seattle, I certainly qualify. I understand “breast issues” and know how challenging navigating the lingerie department can be! I think my part time job after retirement will be the nice older “bra lady” at Nordstrom!
