A ^Retired Plastic Surgeon's Notebook

Women and heart attacks.

Seattle Plastic Surgeon notes the differences in heart attack symptoms between men and women.

Actress, comedienne and sometimes talk show hostess, Rosie O’Donnell suffered a heart attack this week at the age of 50.  She, like many women, did not have the symptom we  most often associates with a heart attack:  severe and crushing chest pain.

Women often have symptoms such as nausea, shortness of breath, jaw pain,  fatigue or just not feeling “right.”  Women, especially those at increased risk of heart disease, really need to keep this in mind and seek evaluation and care early.

Rosie waited until the next day before seeking help.  Wrong thing to do!  The right things she did was to take aspirin and go public and raise awareness of this important women’s health issue.

Thanks for reading and make sure you have a jar of good old fashioned aspirin in your medicine cabinet.   Dr. Lisa Lynn Sowder
