A ^Retired Plastic Surgeon's Notebook

Trading places – Surgeon goes under the knife

Seattle Plastic Surgeon gets a patient’s eye view of surgery.

These little cysts can hurt like crazy.

All I wanted for Christmas this year was to get rid of the three mucous cysts that had sprouted on my thumb and fingers over the past year.  These little fluid filled cysts can caused a big pain in the joint.  Mine sure did.

Four days ago I made myself comfortable on the O.R. table (with the help of my favorite anesthesiologist) and an hour later was admiring the tidy dressings  where the cysts used to be.

I’m still a little bit sore but will be as good as new by the time I start operating again after the New Year.   And, I will be a better surgeon.  Being a patient from time to time always makes me a better doctor!

And I’m grateful that my hand issue wasn’t more serious.  If a surgeon has to have a hand issue, mucous cysts would be my #1 choice!
