A ^Retired Plastic Surgeon's Notebook

Jack Lalanne was right. Gotta keep movin’.

Early this week I heard that Jack Lalanne died – at age 96. Just hearing his name takes me back to my childhood – my mother and me in front of our little black and white T.V. doing situps and deep knee bends to the Jack Lalanne show. He looked so good in black and white with his dark hair, his white teeth and him very slim and trim gym suit. Here he is at 93 and doesn’t he look great? Still movin’. He kept up with exercise long after his show went off the air and it sure shows here.

My mother is now 91 and we had a nice chat on the phone about Jack and those mornings exercising in our living room. She remembers thinking how lean and limber her little girl was and how old I made her feel. I told her that I now truly know how she felt. She felt exactly the way I feel when I take my 10 year old daughter to my yoga class! She puts me and all the other middle aged students to shame but I am determined to keep movin’ if only to set a good example for her. More about yoga on another blog.
