Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) according to Seattle Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Lisa Lynn Sowder

Those of us who live in Seattle don’t often need sunglasses so it’s a little harder for us to hide our eyelid sags and bags behind dark lenses. Thank heavens for blepharoplasty!

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and/or fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids and can help restore a more youthful and rested appearance to the upper face. The technique of blepharoplasty varies from patient to patient. I will evaluated you at the initial consultation and discuss which technique would best suit you.

Most patients who have this procedure are middle aged and older although sometimes younger patients who have inherited excess fat around the eyes can also benefit from blepharoplasty.

The procedure is either done in my AAAASF certified Seattle office operating room or at Seattle Surgery Center which is conveniently located next to my office building. Usually the procedure is done with intravenous sedation combined with a local anesthetic although some patients elect to have a general anesthetic. You may go home the day of surgery.

Recovery from this procedure is usually quite rapid. The eyelids are swollen and bruised noticeably for about one week. After a week, the residual swelling can be concealed with make up or tinted eye glasses. The scars are well hidden in the upper eyelid crease and along the border of the lower eyelid or inside the lower eyelid.
