Forehead lift
A sagging forehead can give a sad, angry or tired appearance even
when a person is happy and well rested. This sagging is usually the
result of normal aging although some younger patients who have inherited
a "low brow" can also have this problem.
A forehead lift can help pull the eyebrows up to a more normal level,
take some of the strain off the forehead muscles and decrease transverse
wrinkling, and lessen some of the frown lines between the eyebrows.
The surgical technique is customized for each patient. Some patients
benefit from an ear-to-ear incision and removal of a small strip of
scalp behind the hairline. Other patients, those who have a high hairline
or very thin hair, may be good candidates to have the surgery done
using an endoscope. In these cases, several small incisions are made
instead of one long incision. At your initial consultation, I will
evaluate your face and make my recommendation. Sometimes a forehead
lift is done in conjunction with other types of facial rejuvenation
surgery such as a face-lift or eyelid surgery.
I perform this procedure at Seattle Surgery Center, which is located
next door to my office building. Most patients have a general anesthetic
and go home the same day of surgery. A small plastic drain is often
placed under the skin for a few days and the patient is required to
wear a snug headband for a week following the surgery to help maintain
good eyebrow position during the healing phase. There is noticeable
bruising and swelling of the brow and the upper face for about one
week following surgery. After one week, most patients can return to
work or social activities with the help of some makeup or tinted glasses.
Insurance does not cover this procedure.
