Tubular Breast Deformity
Tubular breast deformity refers to a breast that has an overly prominent nipple areolar complex (NAC) and has a constricted base. The breast can be very underdeveloped or can be quite large but have an unusual shape. A nickname for tubular breast is a “Snoopy” breast because they sometimes have an appearance of the comic strip beagle’s snout.
Treatment of the tubular breast usually involves and implant to fill out the underdeveloped lower part of the breast and some sort of lift to reshape and reposition the nipple areolar complex. Occasionally, patients can be treated with just and implant or just a lift. In rare cases of enlarged tubular breasts, a combination of a lift and reduction can improve the appearance. Tubular breasts often occur in patients with significant breast asymmetry which makes treatment more challenging.
Every case of tubular breast deformity is unique and the plastic surgeon must be versed in a variety of techniques to optimize the surgical outcome.
